There is nothing clever about this. It is the sequence the shop has run since the sixties, and it is the reason the price never moves after the plumber is already under the sink.

You call and tell us what the water is doing

Somebody at the shop on Greenwood Rd picks up and asks you to describe it. That conversation is the diagnosis starting. We confirm the address, tell you whether this is a tonight job or a Tuesday job, and put a plumber on it.

Before the trucks

There was a horse named Ro-Hoe

The first generation of Roach plumbers traded as West End Plumbing Co, owned by Louis Roach. His helper was Mr. Brow. The horse was called Ro-Hoe. There is a photograph from the late 1930s of the Master Plumbers standing outside Hotel Youree, and Louis is in the front row, second man from the end.

We are telling you this because it is the whole argument. The pipe under a Shreveport house has not changed as much as you would think, and neither has the answer to it. What changed is that we now arrive in a truck.

Sixty years in one town leaves you with a particular kind of inventory. We sell and service tank and tankless water heaters from Rheem, Ruud and State, and we keep them on the shelf rather than ordering them the morning your hot water goes. The same shop handles sewer work, backflow, irrigation, heating and cooling, and kitchen and bathroom remodeling.

The line

Sixty years, five handovers, one phone number

  1. 1962Lal Roach founds Roach Plumbing & Heating in Shreveport.
  2. 1975Lal retires after thirteen years at the front of the shop.
  3. 1978James Roach, Sr. takes the reins, third generation in the trade.
  4. 1981His brother Louis joins him on the tools.
  5. 2014Ricky Johnson joins as administrative assistant.

The questions the office answers most days

Yes. The office runs Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, and there is a 24 hour emergency line for any day of the week. Call (318) 631-4533 and describe what is happening, and we will tell you straight away whether it needs someone tonight or whether it can wait for a normal appointment.

Since 1962. Lal Roach founded the company and retired in 1975. James Roach, Sr. took the reins and made it a third generation plumbing company in 1978, and his brother Louis joined him in 1981. The generation before that traded as West End Plumbing Co. We have been in the same trade in the same city the whole time.

Yes. We hold Louisiana State Plumbing Board license #LMP1321, and it is printed on everything we put our name to. The Plumbing Board issues Journeyman and Master Plumber credentials and you can verify any license free on its website. Commercial work over $10,000 in labour and materials also requires a contractor license through the Louisiana State Licensing Board for Contractors.

Before any work starts. The plumber assesses the problem, explains what the job needs, and gives you the price upfront. Nothing gets done until you have heard the number and agreed to it.

We sell and service Rheem, Ruud and State, in both tank and tankless. Carrying a brand rather than ordering it in is the difference between a part arriving this week and a part arriving next month, which matters a great deal when the house has no hot water.

Both, and we have done for sixty years. On the commercial side that means sewer lift stations, high pressure water jetting, backflow assemblies, repipes and heating and cooling, scheduled so the building can keep working while we are in it.

Shreveport first, then Bossier City, Benton, Haughton, Greenwood and Stonewall, across Caddo and Bossier parishes.

Two reasons that come up constantly here. The older neighbourhoods still have cast iron and galvanized pipe in the ground, and the heavy clay soil shifts, which moves sewer lines and opens the joints that tree roots then find. In the established streets with mature trees, root intrusion is the single most common cause we are called out for.
